The Hyper Compressor is a high-pressure reciprocating compressor used in the production of polyethylene. In this process, final pressures of up to 3500 bar are reached, which present a risk to man and machine if used improperly. The demands on the components of the compressor are very high due to the resulting forces and require detailed continuous monitoring. After a short introduction to this application the general concept of monitoring and all-important loops will be highlighted in a general way. Finally, various short case studies, from the crankcase to the cylinder head, should show the necessity of these measuring chains in a practical way.
