Description
For Coperion, the target of developing a new pneumatic conveying process was energy savings. The concept included injection of a small amount of water into the pneumatic conveying in order to humidify the conveying, and the water should act as a lubricant. In fact, this idea was not new to the market but the innovative step was to determine the operating window, how much water is needed for the lubrication effect. At the same time, a control algorithm was developed for injecting water but maintaining dry product at the end of the pneumatic conveying line. The results of this development were extraordinary. Not only it was proven that the energy consumption of the pneumatic conveying goes down by 20-25 %, or that the throughput of a conveying line can be increased by approx. 20 %, respectively. Furthermore, it was discovered that the rate of generating fines and streamers during the pneumatic conveying is lowered drastically by 70 to 90%. This offers new concepts for pneumatic conveying systems and carries potential for emission control. The technology has been introduced to the market in the meantime, and an overview over the experiences and benefits achieved will be given during the presentation
